DESCRIPTION:
APW - Illinois, Bunn Special with rare bright spotted damascene, 23J, 16S, gold-filled OF original case, Montgomery white enamel DS Gothic numeral dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel, bright spotted pattern nickel damascene, s#2572686. The bright spotted pattern was the first damascene used among 16 size Bunn Special production. This damascene is rare among 23 jewel 16 size Bunn Specials with a total of 510 produced in three different variants; the present example with "D'Bl Roller" movement marking represents the earliest of these three variants and has an estimated total production of 200 made. CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking somewhat sluggishly, overhaul recommended, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, balance cock with some micro-fine scratches at perimeter, plates with few micro-fine scratches elsewhere, minuscule speck of oxide to perimeter of larger winding wheel, mild bits of oxide to regulator assembly; dial with light outer chapter hls at 9, patch of abrasion left of 4, few scattered small scratches and fine scratches; fair hands with portions of finish loss and oxide; cased shows light wear, prominent denting to rear, nicks to band, inner surface of rear is largely through to brass; bow pivots freely, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
